Water transportation and distribution networks require hydraulic calculations to determination the flowrate and pressure characteristics at one or several consumption points and the water supply flowrate and pressures needed to meet the design requirements. In the context of fire safety, hydraulic calculations are used to determine the flow of an extinguishing medium through a piping network and through discharge devices (e.g., nozzles, sprinklers) to control, suppress, or extinguish fires.

A low-voltage network or secondary network is a part of electric power distribution which carries electric energy from distribution transformers to electricity meters of end customers. Secondary networks are operated at a low voltage level, which is typically equal to the mains voltage of electric appliances. Most modern secondary networks are operated at AC rated voltage of 100–127 or 220–240 volts, at the frequency of 50 or 60 hertz (see mains electricity by country). Operating voltage, required number of phases (three-phase or single-phase) and required reliability dictate topology and configuration of the network. The simplest form are radial service drop lines from the transformer to t…

Integrated redundancy measure for the analysis of water distribution network. <p>The directional nature and complex interconnections of a water distribution network (WDN) layout make it challenging to analyze its performance. The interplay of nodes and links in a WDN creates inherent redundancy in the network layout, which should be accounted for in performance assessment. Previous studies mainly focussed on the hydraulic nature of WDN redundancy. In this respect, to understand the importance of topological configuration on the performance of WDN, it is imperative to have proper measures to provide a comprehensive picture of the WDN redundancy. This study presents a new redundancy measure t…

Pressure And Flow Transient Response Prediction For Power Plant Piping Networks. A dynamic mathematical model of a heating plant steam distribution system is developed and implemented in a simulator for use in the prediction of pressure and flow transient responses in the network Five boilers are available to supply steam to the network which contains nine pressure reducing valves and four desuperheaters to provide operating pressures of 6205, 2760, and 1035 kPa. The network, which distributes steam to a district heating system at two entry points, contains piping that ranges from 0.2 to 0.6 meters in diameter with equivalent lengths up to 290 meters. Only steady state operating data and pl…
