Human bonding is the process of development of a close interpersonal relationship between two or more people. It most commonly takes place between family members or friends, but can also develop among groups, such as sporting teams and whenever people spend time together. Bonding is a mutual, interactive process, and is different from simple liking. It is the process of nurturing social connection. Bonding typically refers to the process of attachment that develops between romantic or platonic partners, close friends, or parents and children. Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. It is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an "acquaintance" or an "association", such as a classmate, neighbor, coworker, or colleague. Although there are many forms of friendship, certain features are common to many such bonds, such as choosing to be with one another, enjoying time spent together, and being able to engage in a positive and supportive role to one another. Sometimes friends are distinguished from family, as in the saying "friends and family", and sometimes from lovers (e.g., "lovers and friends"), although the line is blurred with friends with benefits (see also unrequited love). Evolution of networks in virtual reality: A scalable framework for studying social dynamics of small groups.. Immersive technologies provide new possibilities to study social dynamics. In this paper, we develop a methodological framework for identifying and describing the evolution of group networks in virtual reality (VR). Leveraging longitudinal data on participants' interpersonal distances obtained in a collaborative virtual environment during a university course about VR we demonstrate how network methods can be applied and used to test propositions of social capital theory. Specifically, we use stochastic actor-oriented models (SAOMs) to explore the formation and change of social ties…

Does rural talent cultivation enhance farmers' social capital? Evidence from the 'One Village, One University Student' project.. Using the One Village, One University Student (OVOUS) project as an example and drawing on survey data from 2,552 farmers in 12 counties (county-level cities/districts) in Jiangxi Province, China, this study employs an endogenous switching probit (ESP) model to empirically examine whether participation in rural revitalization talent-training programs enhances farmers' social capital. The results show that: (1) participation significantly increases farmers' bonding social capital by 6.8 percentage points (ATT = 0.068, SE = 0.002), suggesting that systematic educati…

First-time postpartum motherhood during armed conflict: experiences, challenges, coping, and support needs among women with mobilized partners.. Armed conflict creates profound challenges for first-time mothers navigating the early postpartum period without the presence of their partners. The abrupt loss of expected support, combined with heightened fear and prolonged uncertainty, intensifies emotional vulnerability and disrupts maternal adjustment to early parenthood. Despite extensive research on trauma and crisis, little is known about how large-scale armed conflict shapes first-time mothers' lived postpartum experiences and their engagement with care systems. This study aimed to explore…

An interspecies friendship is usually a nonsexual bond that is formed between animals of different species. Numerous cases of interspecies friendships among wild and domesticated animals have been reported and documented with photography and video. Domestication of animals has led to interspecies friendships between species that would never naturally exist together. In many cases of interspecies friendship, the species are not normally seen together, and sometimes, one is of a species that ordinarily preys on the other in nature. The concept of interspecies friendship is similar to that of mutualism in that two individuals from different species exist in a relationship where each organism b…
