Blue Whale Challenge (Russian: Си́ний ки́т, romanized: Siniy kit), also known simply as the Blue Whale, is a social network phenomenon, first appeared in Russia in 2013, that is claimed to exist in several countries. It is a "game" reportedly consisting of a series of tasks assigned to players by administrators over a 50-day period, which are initially innocuous and then introduce elements of self-harm, with the final challenge requiring the player to kill themselves. Blue Whale Challenge first attracted news coverage in May 2016 in an article in the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta that linked many unrelated child suicides to membership of group "F57" on the Russian-based VK social network.…

On November 23, 2015, Renata Kambolina, a 16-year-old Russian student from Ussuriysk, took her own life. Her final social media post, shared under her pseudonym Rina Palenkova, drew widespread attention on the social network VKontakte. In the period following the incident, her image and final message indirectly spawned numerous internet memes and became frequently discussed within online communities, sparking a wave of romanticisation of suicide that falsely framed her as a virtual idol. Numerous copycat suicides and attempted suicides followed the event, using her final words, photo framing, or both. Kambolina's death occurred prior to the emergence of online "death groups," which later re…

The "Momo Challenge" was an internet hoax and urban legend that was rumoured to spread through social media and other outlets as a creepypasta. It was reported that children and adolescents were being harassed by a user named Momo to perform a series of dangerous tasks including violent attacks, self-harm, harming others, and suicide, mirroring the earlier Blue Whale Challenge. Despite claims that the phenomenon had reached worldwide proportions in July 2018, the number of actual complaints were relatively small and many law enforcement agencies have not been able to confirm that anyone was harmed as a direct result of it. Moreover, the Momo Challenge sparked global panic and prompted urgen…

Cetaceans are marine mammals belonging to the infraorder Cetacea (), a secondarily aquatic clade under the order Artiodactyla that include whales, dolphins, porpoises and extinct groups such as Basilosaurus. Most cetaceans live in marine environments, particularly the pelagic zone, but some reside solely in brackish or fresh water. Having a cosmopolitan distribution, they can be found in some rivers and all of Earth's oceans. Many species migrate seasonally over vast ranges for food advantages. Key characteristics of cetaceans are their fully aquatic life cycle, streamlined, fish-like body shape, the need to periodically surface and breathe air, and exclusively carnivorous diet. Some cetace…
