Pełniejszy materiał źródłowy / excerpt
Capacitance is the ability of an object to store electric charge. It is measured by the change in charge in response to a difference in electric potential, expressed as the ratio of those quantities. Commonly recognized are two closely related notions of capacitance: self-capacitance and mutual capacitance. An object that can be electrically charged exhibits self-capacitance, for which the electric potential is measured between the object and ground. Mutual capacitance is measured between two components, and is particularly important in the operation of the capacitor, an elementary linear electronic component designed to add capacitance to an electric circuit. The capacitance between two conductors depends on the opposing surface area of the conductors, the distance between those conductors, and the permittivity of any dielectric material between them. For many dielectric materials, the permittivity, and thus the capacitance, is independent of the potential difference between the conductors and the total charge on them. The SI unit of capacitance is the farad (symbol: F), named after the English physicist Michael Faraday. A 1 farad capacitor, when charged with 1 coulomb of electrical charge, has a potential difference of 1 volt between its plates. The reciprocal of capacitance is called elastance.

Design and Performance Verification of a Non-Contact Geoelectric Field Sensor Based on a Three-Layer Composite Structure.. Geoelectric field observations play a vital role in geophysical exploration, geological disaster early warning, and underground resource detection. Traditional contact non-polarisable electrodes, which require burial and electrolyte coupling, are hindered by several issues, such as limited adaptability to challenging terrain, significant electrode potential drift, and high susceptibility to environmental interference. Existing non-contact electric field sensors often exhibit insufficient coupling capacitance, poor impedance matching for ultra-weak high-impedance signals…

An electrostatic fieldmeter, also called a static meter or electrostatic voltmeter is a tool used primarily in the static control industry for non-contact measurement of electrostatic fields and surface potentials. It detects the electric field strength (typically in volts per meter V/m or volts per inch V/in) generated by charged objects, which can indicate the magnitude and polarity of electrostatic charges. Operation Typically, electrostatic fieldmeters should be grounded to an ESD grounding/bonding reference point using a connecting point provided on the fieldmeter. Alternatively, some fieldmeters utilize conductive cases and can be grounded through the person holding the fieldmeter if…

In electrical engineering, ground or earth may refer to reference ground – a reference point in an electrical circuit from which voltages are measured, earth ground – an electrically neutral node that has a lot of available charges (e.g. the physical ground of Earth), or common ground – a common return path for electric current (also called neutral in electric power systems). Ground current or earth current is the current that flows through a reference ground, earth ground, or common ground. To ground or to earth an object is to electrically connect the object to a reference ground, earth ground, or common ground. Electrical circuits may be grounded for several reasons. A protective earth c…

Modeling and Validation of Electrostatic Sensing for UAV Targets in High-Dynamic Encounter Scenarios.. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly used in urban management and public services, but their potential misuse poses serious risks to public safety. Electrostatic sensors offer a promising approach for UAV detection and interception by capturing their electrostatic signatures during dynamic encounters. However, the sensor output is affected by the coupling between encounter parameters and circuit characteristics, making accurate modeling challenging. This study proposes an analytical modeling method for electrically floating electrostatic sensor signals, calibrated under actual…

Voltage, also known as (electrical) potential difference, electric pressure, or electric tension, is the difference in electric potential between two points. In a static electric field, it corresponds to the work needed per unit of charge to move a positive test charge from the first point to the second point. In the International System of Units (SI), the derived unit for voltage is the volt (V). The voltage between points can be caused by the build-up of electric charge (e.g., a capacitor), and from an electromotive force (e.g., electromagnetic induction in a generator). On a macroscopic scale, a potential difference can be caused by electrochemical processes (e.g., cells and batteries),…

Body capacitance is the physical property of a human body to act as a capacitor. Like any other electrically conductive object, a human body can store electric charge if insulated. The actual amount of capacitance varies with the surroundings; it would be low when standing on top of a pole with nothing nearby, but high when leaning against an insulated, but grounded large metal surface, such as a household refrigerator, or a metal wall in a factory. When a human's body capacitance is charged to a high voltage by friction or other means, it can produce undesirable effects when abruptly discharged as a spark. The influence of body capacitance on a tuned circuit may also change its resonant fr…

Parasitic capacitance or stray capacitance is the unavoidable and usually unwanted capacitance that exists between the parts of an electronic component or circuit simply because of their proximity to each other. When two electrical conductors at different voltages are close together, the electric field between them causes electric charge to be stored on them; this effect is capacitance. All practical circuit elements such as inductors, diodes, and transistors have internal capacitance, which can cause their behavior to depart from that of ideal circuit elements. Additionally, there is always some capacitance between any two conductors; this can be significant with closely spaced conductors,…

Electrostatic induction, also known as "electrostatic influence" or simply "influence" in Europe and Latin America, is a redistribution of electric charge in an object that is caused by the influence of nearby charges. In the presence of a charged body, an insulated conductor develops a positive charge on one end and a negative charge on the other end. The nature of electrostatic induction was studied in the mid 1700s. Electrostatic generators, such as the Wimshurst machine, the Van de Graaff generator and the electrophorus, use this principle. Due to induction, the electrostatic potential (voltage) is constant at any point throughout a conductor. Electrostatic induction is also responsible…
