The Discoverers is a non-fiction historical work by Daniel Boorstin, published in 1983, and is the first in the Knowledge Trilogy, which also includes The Creators and The Seekers. The book, subtitled A History of Man's Search to Know His World and Himself, is a history of human discovery. Discovery in many forms is described: exploration, science, medicine, mathematics, and more-theoretical ones, such as time, evolution, plate tectonics, and relativity. Boorstin praises the inventive, human mind and its eternal quest to discover the universe and humanity's place in it. In "A Personal Note to the Reader", Boorstin writes "My hero is Man, the Discoverer. The world we now view from the litera…

Early Discoverers XIII: The First Glaciologists in Central Asia. Abstract Contributions to the glaciology of the Himalaya, Karakoram, and Turkestan areas are contained in the hitherto unpublished records of the Schlagintweit brothers. These should be of considerable value for future research since the records include paintings, sketch maps, descriptions, and also measurements of glacier speed, which give details of the state of the glaciers in 1855–56. These records were used recently to great advantage on Nanga Parbat.

The Discovery of America is a trilogy written by the German author and educator Joachim Heinrich Campe (1746–1818). It was originally published in 1781/82 as Die Entdekkung von Amerika – ein angenehmes und nützliches Lesebuch für Kinder und junge Leute and deals with the discovery, early exploration and conquest of America by focusing on one explorer in each volume: Christopher Columbus is treated first, followed by Hernán Cortés and finally Francisco Pizarro. The work is counted among the first books of specific children's literature, directly targeting children and adolescents as its main audience, and Campe is said to have "set the standard for German children's literature." The trilogy…

The Illuminatus! Trilogy is a series of three novels by American writers Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson, first published in 1975. The trilogy is a satirical, postmodern, science fiction–influenced adventure story; a drug-, sex-, and magic-laden trek through a number of conspiracy theories, both historical and imaginary, related to the authors' version of the Illuminati. The narrative often switches between third- and first-person perspectives in a nonlinear narrative. It is thematically dense, covering topics like counterculture, numerology, and Discordianism. The trilogy comprises three parts which contain five books and appendices: The Eye in the Pyramid (first two books), The Golden…

The Creators: A History of Heroes of the Imagination is a non-fiction work of cultural history by Daniel Boorstin published in 1992. It was preceded by The Discoverers and succeeded by The Seekers. The Creators is put forward as the story of mankind's creativity. It highlights great works of art, music and literature. The Creators was criticized by the Washington Post for factual mistakes, poor research, literary ignorance, incorrect conclusions, a bias toward Western culture to the exclusion of other cultures, a tendency to overlook the negative, lack of attribution, and visibly sloppy proofreading and editing. The New York Times noted the book's subjective nature - "he tends to write abou…
