The Global Macro Bifurcation: Real GDP-Driven vs. Inflation-Dominated Nominal GDP Growth. Through-cycle empirical estimates of the nominal GDP growth anchor highlight a pronounced macro bifurcation across sovereigns and economic aggregates. <div> <br> <div> Two quantitatively different risk profiles emerge through log-additive nominal growth decomposition over the 2001–2025 cycle: i) a Real-GDP driven share cohort — including the United States, China, Singapore, Japan, France, and the broader G7 aggregate — where long-term nominal trends reflect a materially healthy and robust macro backdrop driven by structural output expansion and relatively moderate domestic inflation pressures, an…

India has a developing market-oriented economy with substantial state participation in strategic sectors. As of April 2026, it is the world's sixth-largest economy by nominal GDP and the third-largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). By per capita income, the nation ranks 149th by nominal GDP and 119th by PPP-adjusted GDP as of 2026. From independence in 1947 until 1991, economic development was characterised by protectionist economic policies, with extensive state intervention, central planning, public ownership of key industries, and regulation. An acute balance-of-payments crisis in 1991 led India to adopt broad economic liberalisation. Nearly 70% of India's GDP comes from domestic cons…

This list of countries by largest historical GDP shows how the membership and rankings of the world's ten largest economies as measured by their gross domestic product has changed. While the United States has consistently had the world's largest economy for some time, in the last fifty years the world has seen both rises and falls in relative terms of the economies of other countries.

Economic Losses from Premature Under-Five Mortality due to Diarrhoeal Diseases in South Asia: Trends, Aetiologies, and Key Risk Factors.. Background Diarrhoeal diseases remain a major cause of under-five mortality in South Asia despite global health progress. Methods Using data from the datasets published by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) and World Bank indicators, the study applied the human capital approach to estimate the present value of lost future labour in…

More Links but Fewer Effective Routes: Entropy and Resilience in Global Lithium, Cobalt and Nickel Trade Networks.. Counts of trade links are often used as evidence of diversification, yet they say little about how value is distributed across those links. Using bilateral flows for selected lithium, cobalt and nickel products among 72 economies from 2010 to 2024, we built directed, value-weighted networks and examined them with multiscale entropy measures, lagged formation models and disruption tests. Here, entropy is used in the information-theoretic sense to measure how evenly trade value, network weight or motif participation is distributed across routes and structural modes; for route-va…

The world economy or global economy is the economy of all humans in the world, referring to the global economic system, which includes all economic activities conducted both within and between nations, including production, consumption, economic management, work in general, financial transactions and trade of goods and services. In some contexts, the two terms are distinct: the "international" or "global economy" is measured separately and distinguished from national economies, while the "world economy" is simply an aggregate of the separate countries' measurements. Beyond the minimum standard concerning value in production, use and exchange, the definitions, representations, models and val…

A country's gross domestic product (GDP) at purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita is the PPP value of all final goods and services produced within an economy in a given year, divided by the average (or mid-year) population for the same year. This is similar to nominal GDP per capita but adjusted for the cost of living in each country. In 2026, the estimated average GDP per capita (PPP) of all of the countries was $25,591. For rankings regarding wealth, see list of countries by wealth per adult.
