Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It is the metropole and most populous constituent of the Kingdom of Denmark, also known as the Danish Realm, a constitutionally unitary state that includes the autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland in the north Atlantic Ocean. Metropolitan Denmark, also called "continental Denmark" or "Denmark proper", consists of the northern Jutland peninsula and an archipelago of 406 islands. It is the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries, lying southwest of Sweden, south of Norway, and north of Germany, with which it shares a short border. Metropolitan Denmark is situated between the North Sea to the west and the Baltic Sea to the…

Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark and is the largest of the kingdom's three constituent parts by land area, the others being Denmark proper and the Faroe Islands. Citizens of Greenland are citizens of Denmark. They are thus citizens of the European Union (EU), although Greenland is not part of the EU. It is the world's largest island and lies between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. It shares a small 1.2-kilometre (0.75 mi) border with Canada on Hans Island. The capital and largest city is Nuuk. Kaffeklubben Island off the northern coast is the world's northernmost undisputed point of land – Cape Morris Jesup on the main i…

Antifungal Dispensing in Denmark: Patterns Across Primary Care, Secondary Care, and Over-the-Counter Sectors.. Fungal infections pose a significant health burden in Denmark. Increasing global antifungal use and emerging antifungal resistance underscore the need for ongoing characterization of national prescribing trends to inform antifungal stewardship. Danish Health Data Bank Medstat site was accessed to assess total antifungal dispensing in Denmark from 1996 to 2025 across primary care, secondary care (hospitals), and over-the-counter sectors for both topical and systemic antifungals. Over the 30-year period, national antifungal dispensing patterns shifted substantially, with increased di…

Ethnic Disparities in Clinical Decision-Making for Rapid Tranquillisation in Adult Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Settings: A Qualitative Study.. Rapid tranquillisation is a widely used restrictive practice, but evidence suggests that ethnic minorities are disproportionately exposed compared with majority populations. This retrospective qualitative multiple-case study explored how staff clinical decision-making regarding rapid tranquillisation, as reflected in clinical documentation, may vary by ethnicity in adult forensic mental health inpatient settings. Nineteen cases involving rapid tranquillisation use between 01 Jul 2021 and 31 Jan 2025 were purposively selected using paper-based fo…

The Danish Realm, officially the Kingdom of Denmark, often known as Denmark, is a sovereign state consisting of a collection of constituent territories united by the Constitutional Act, which applies to the entire territory. It consists of metropolitan Denmark (sometimes called "Denmark proper")—the kingdom's territory in continental Europe and its proximate islands—and the realm's two autonomous (but not sovereign) regions: the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic and Greenland in North America. The relationship between the three parts of the kingdom is known as Rigsfællesskabet (The Unity of the Realm, which has also been translated as the Danish Commonwealth or the United Kingdom of Denma…

Adherents of Islam constitute the world's second largest and fastest growing major religious grouping, maintaining suggested 2017 projections in 2022. As of 2020, Pew Research Center (PEW) projections suggest there are a total of 2 billion adherents worldwide, representing 25.6% of the world population. Further studies indicate that the global spread and percentage growth of Islam is primarily due to relatively high birth rates and a youthful age structure. Conversion to Islam does not have much impact on the overall growth of the Muslim population, as the number of people converting to Islam is roughly equal to the number of those leaving the faith. According to another study published in…

This is a list of urban areas in the Nordic countries by population. Urban areas in the Nordic countries are measured at national level, independently by each country's statistical office. Statistics Sweden uses the term tätort (urban settlement), Statistics Finland also uses tätort in Swedish and taajama in Finnish, Statistics Denmark uses byområde (city), while Statistics Norway uses tettsted (urban settlement). A common statistical definition between the Nordic countries was agreed in 1960, which defines an urban area as a contiguous built-up area with a population of at least 200 and where the maximum distance between dwellings is 200 metres, excluding roads, car parks, parks, sports gr…

Electroconvulsive Therapy in Denmark From 2017 to 2025: A Nationwide Register-Based Study.. Objective Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a well-established treatment for severe manifestations of mental illness. This study examined trends in ECT use in Denmark from 2017 to 2025 using nationwide data from the Danish National Patient Register. Methods The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results The use of voluntary ECT increased from 2017 to 2019, after which it plateaued. It was the number of patients treated that increased rather than the number of treatments per patient. The increase was not explained by population growth, ie, the number of patients treated voluntarily with…
