In Canada and the United States, the North American beaver is often referred to simply as "beaver;" however, this can cause some confusion because another distantly related rodent, Aplodontia rufa, is often called the "mountain beaver".
Pełniejszy materiał źródłowy / excerpt
The North American beaver (Castor canadensis) is one of two extant beaver species, along with the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber). It is native to North America and has been introduced in South America (Patagonia) and Europe (primarily Finland and Karelia). The North American beaver is one of the national symbols of Canada and the official state mammal of Oregon and New York. North American beavers are widespread across the continental United States, Canada, southern Alaska, and some parts of northern Mexico. In Canada and the United States, the North American beaver is often referred to simply as "beaver;" however, this can cause some confusion because another distantly related rodent, Aplodontia rufa, is often called the "mountain beaver". Other vernacular names, including American beaver and Canadian beaver, distinguish this species from the other extant beaver species, Castor fiber, which is native to Eurasia.

Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers, Occupational Exposures, and Thyroid Function Among US and Canadian Firefighters: A Cross-sectional Study.. Objective Evaluate the association between serum polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) levels and thyroid anatomy and function in firefighters. Methods Two hundred fifty-nine firefighters provided a blood sample and underwent thyroid ultrasound. Blood serum levels were tested for thyroid function tests and PBDEs -47, -85, -99, -100, -153, and -154 (ng/g lipid weight). Ultrasonography documented structural characteristics. Bivariate associations between PBDE concentrations and demographic/occupational characteristics, thyroid function, and thyroid anatomic…

Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial is a 352-foot (107 m) tall column and U.S. national memorial in Put-in-Bay, Ohio, built to commemorate the Battle of Lake Erie that took place near South Bass Island. One of the largest naval engagements of the War of 1812, the battle saw American Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry lead a United States Navy squadron to victory over a smaller Royal Navy force under Robert Heriot Barclay. Located on an isthmus on the island, the memorial also celebrates the lasting peace between Britain, Canada, and the United States that followed the war.

The Battle of Beaver Dams took place on 24 June 1813, during the War of 1812. A column of troops from the United States Army marched from Fort George and attempted to surprise a British outpost at Beaver Dams, billeting themselves overnight in the village of Queenston, Ontario. Laura Secord, a resident of Queenston, had earlier learned of the American plans from several Americans billeted at her house and had struck out on a long and difficult trek to warn the British at Decou's stone house near present-day Brock University. When the Americans resumed their march, they were ambushed by Kahnawake and other native warriors and eventually surrendered to a small British detachment led by Lieute…

Benzodiazepine-Free Cardiac Anesthesia for Reduction of Postoperative Delirium: A Cluster Randomized Crossover Trial.. Importance Delirium is common after cardiac surgery and associated with adverse outcomes. Intraoperative benzodiazepines may increase postoperative delirium but restricting intraoperative benzodiazepines has not yet been evaluated in a randomized trial. Objective To determine whether an institutional policy of restricted intraoperative benzodiazepine administration reduced the incidence of postoperative delirium. Design, setting, and participants This pragmatic, multiperiod, patient- and assessor-blinded, cluster randomized crossover trial took place at 20 North American ca…
