Lowering the speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph in Boston: effects on vehicle speeds. Introduction Effective 9 January 2017, the default speed limit on Boston streets was reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph. This study evaluated the effects of the speed limit reduction on speeds in Boston. Method Vehicle speeds were collected at sites in Boston where the speed limit was lowered, and at control sites in Providence, Rhode Island, where the speed limit remained unchanged, before and after the speed limit change in Boston. A log-linear regression model estimated the change in vehicle speeds associated with the speed limit reduction. Separate logistic regression models estimated changes in the odds of…

The winged cat – a feline with wings like a bird, bat or other flying creature – is a theme in artwork and legend going back to prehistory, especially mythological depictions of big cats with eagle wings in Eurasia and North Africa. Belief in domestic cats with wings persists to the present day as an urban legend. Sightings of cats with supposed wings are easily explained by medical conditions that can result in matted hair, loose skin, or supernumerary limbs on or near the shoulders, that flap about in a wing-like manner as the cat runs.

Cats communicate for a variety of reasons, including to show happiness, express anger, solicit attention, and observe potential prey. Additionally, they collaborate, play, and share resources. When cats communicate with humans, they do so to get what they need or want, such as food, water, attention, or play. As such, cat communication methods have been significantly altered by domestication. Studies have shown that domestic cats tend to meow much more than feral cats. They rarely meow to communicate with fellow cats or other animals. Cats can socialize with each other and are known to form "social ladders", where a dominant cat leads a few lesser cats. This is common in multi-cat household…

The Greyhound is a breed of dog and a sighthound. It is an ancient breed historically developed for hunting game by sight and speed, and has later been used in organised coursing and greyhound racing. Greyhounds are also kept as show dogs and companion animals. Greyhounds are characterised by a tall, muscular, smooth-coated build, a long tail, tough feet, and a distinctive flexible, "S-shaped" outline typical of sighthounds. They are a distinct breed from other related sighthounds, such as the Italian Greyhound. The Greyhound's long legs, deep chest, flexible spine, and slim build enable high sprinting speeds. In racing contexts, Greyhounds can reach peak speeds of at least 69 km/h (43 mph)…

How fast can cheetah run?. In the wild, predator-prey interactions are central to the evolution and structure of ecological communities, and in this context, cheetahs have evolved the ability to run at high speeds to capture prey. The cheetah is the fastest land mammal in the world. Cheetahs have a top speed of over 110 km/h. 100m sprint in about 6 seconds.

Domestic cat management in the UK: learnings from a global perspective.. The overpopulation of domestic cats has the potential to result in negative outcomes for cats, people and the surrounding environment. A whole-population approach to management requires a system of services considering owned, shelter and free-living, unowned cats. Population management should also be considered at a localised level, with thought given to the unique populations of both cats and people in each environment. There is no simple, overarching solution to effective cat population management. Long-term management improvements require the addressing of root causes of overpopulation, rather than simply controllin…
