Pełniejszy materiał źródłowy / excerpt
Energy conservation is the effort to reduce wasteful energy consumption by using fewer energy services. This can be done by using energy more effectively (using less and better sources of energy for continuous service) or changing one's behavior to use less and better source of service (for example, by driving vehicles which consume renewable energy or energy with more efficiency). Energy conservation can be achieved through efficient energy use, which has some advantages, including a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a smaller carbon footprint, as well as cost, water, and energy savings. Green engineering practices improve the life cycle of the components of machines which convert energy from one form into another. Energy can be conserved by reducing waste and losses, improving efficiency through technological upgrades, improving operations and maintenance, changing users' behaviors through user profiling or user activities, monitoring appliances, shifting load to off-peak hours, and providing energy-saving recommendations. Observing appliance usage, establishing an energy usage profile, and revealing energy consumption patterns in circumstances where energy is used poorly, can pinpoint user habits and behaviors in energy consumption. Appliance energy profiling helps identify inefficient appliances with high energy consumption and energy load. Seasonal variations also…

A Zero-Energy Building (ZEB), also known as a Net Zero-Energy (NZE) building, is a building with net zero energy consumption, meaning the total amount of energy used by the building on an annual basis is equal to the amount of renewable energy created on the site or in other definitions by renewable energy sources offsite, using technology such as heat pumps, high efficiency windows and insulation, and solar panels. The goal is that these buildings contribute less overall greenhouse gas to the atmosphere during operation than similar non-NZE buildings. They do at times consume non-renewable energy and produce greenhouse gases, but at other times reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas…

Renewable energy (also called green energy) is energy made from renewable natural resources that are replenished on a human timescale. The most widely used renewable energy types are solar energy, wind power, bioenergy/biomass, and hydropower. Bioenergy and geothermal power are also significant in some countries. Renewable energy installations can be large or small and are suited for both urban and rural areas. Renewable energy is often deployed together with further electrification. This has several benefits: electricity can move heat and vehicles efficiently and is clean at the point of consumption. Variable renewable energy sources are those that have a fluctuating nature, such as wind p…

The nuclear power debate is a long-running controversy about the risks and benefits of using nuclear reactors to generate electricity for civilian purposes. The debate about nuclear power peaked during the 1970s and 1980s, as more and more reactors were built and came online, and "reached an intensity unprecedented in the history of technology controversies" in some countries. In the 2010s, with growing public awareness about climate change and the critical role that carbon dioxide and methane emissions plays in causing the heating of the Earth's atmosphere, there was a resurgence in the intensity of the nuclear power debate. Proponents of nuclear energy argue that nuclear power is the only…

The politics of climate change results from different perspectives on how to respond to climate change. Global warming is driven largely by the emissions of greenhouse gases due to human activity, especially the burning of fossil fuels, certain industries like cement and steel production, and land use for agriculture and forestry. Since the Industrial Revolution, fossil fuels have provided the main source of energy for economic and technological development. The centrality of fossil fuels and other carbon-intensive industries has resulted in much resistance to climate policy, despite widespread scientific consensus that such policy is necessary. Climate change first emerged as a political i…

Spa visits carry measurable carbon footprints that vary with energy use and renewables.. Spa and wellness centres constitute a fundamental aspect of contemporary health and lifestyle infrastructure, yet their environmental impacts remain under-assessed. This study presents a dynamic emissions calculator tailored to spa and wellness facilities, designed to generate transparent per-visitor emissions and support decarbonisation and benchmarking. By combining metered data such as energy and water with normalised non-metered sources including waste and staff travel, the model quantifies per-visitor emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 and provides time-resolved profiles showing daily and seasonal…

Emergy evaluation of ecological sustainability in Cananguchales (Mauritia flexuosa): A biocountable approach in the Amazonian foothills.. Cananguchales, forested wetlands dominated by Mauritia flexuosa, are strategic ecosystems in the Amazonian foothills due to their contribution to ecosystem goods and services. However, their high vulnerability to climate variability and the progressive degradation caused by the global crisis demand new tools for their valuation and sustainable management. This study evaluated the ecological sustainability of Cananguchales through emergy indicators that allow biocountable monitoring of the efficiency and performance of their ecological wealth. Indicators o…

A novel multi-layer energy management system for enhanced grid services by a hybrid energy storage system. Background: The increasing integration of renewable energy sources (RES) in power systems introduces operational challenges due to their intermittent and difficult-to-predict generation. Hybrid Energy Storage Systems (HESS) can mitigate these issues by providing flexibility and stability to microgrids. However, efficient coordination between storage systems, renewable generation, and the utility grid requires advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS). This work presents a hierarchical EMS developed within the HAVEN project to optimize energy flow, reduce operational costs, and extend ba…

Research on an IMODE-NLSF hybrid parameter fitting method for pile-up double-exponential nuclear pulses.. By addressing the issues of nonlinear amplitude distortion and spurious spectrum tailing caused by pulse pile-up in nuclear radiation detection systems, this paper proposes a serially coupled parameter fitting and separation algorithm combining Improved Differential Evolution (IMODE) and Nonlinear Least Squares Fitting (NLSF). Utilizing the double-exponential model as the basis function for nuclear pulses, this algorithm first leverages the robust global search capability of IMODE to locate the optimal solution neighborhood within a broad parameter space. It then smoothly transitions to…
