Lake Constance (German: Bodensee, pronounced [ˈboːdn̩zeː] ) refers to three bodies of water on the Rhine at the northern foot of the Alps: Upper Lake Constance (Obersee), Lower Lake Constance (Untersee), and a connecting stretch of the Rhine, called the Seerhein (lit. 'Rhine of the lake(s)'). These water bodies lie within the Lake Constance Basin (Bodenseebecken) in the Alpine Foreland through which the Rhine flows. The nearby Mindelsee is not considered part of Lake Constance. The lake is situated where Germany, Switzerland, and Austria meet. Its shorelines lie in the German states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria; the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen, Thurgau, and Schaffhausen; and the Austria…

The Untersee (German pronunciation: [ˈʊntɐzeː], lit. 'Lower Lake'), also known as Lower Lake Constance, is the smaller of the two lakes that together form Lake Constance. The boundary between Switzerland and Germany runs through it. The lake surrounds several islands, the largest being Reichenau Island.

The Seerhein (lit. 'Rhine of the lake(s)'; cf. Rheinsee) is a river about 4.3 km (2.7 mi) long, in the basin of Lake Constance (German: Bodensee). It is the outflow of the Upper Lake Constance and the main tributary of the Lower Lake Constance. The water level of the Lower Lake is about 30 cm (12 in) below the level of the Upper Lake. It is considered part of the river Rhine, which flows into Lake Constance as the Alpine Rhine and flows out of the Lower Lake as the High Rhine. The Seerhein arose after the last ice age (the Würm glaciation, about 9650 BCE). Some time after this period, the water level of Lake Constance gradually dropped by about ten metres and the shallow parts fell dry. Som…

Lake Level Evolution of the Largest Freshwater Lake on the Mediterranean Islands through Drought Analysis and Machine Learning. Vrana Lake on the karst island of Cres (Croatia) is the largest freshwater lake in the Mediterranean islands. The lake cryptodepression, filled with 220 million m3 of fresh drinking water, represents a specific karst phenomenon. To better understand the impact of water level change drivers, the occurrence of meteorological and hydrological droughts was analysed. Basic machine learning methods (ML) such as the multiple linear regression (MLR), multiple nonlinear regression (MNLR), and artificial neural network (ANN) were used to simulate water levels. Modelling was…

Lake Überlingen (Standard German of Germany: Überlinger See, Swiss Standard German: Überlingersee) is the northwestern "finger" of the Obersee, the lower part of Lake Constance. The boundary of lake is defined as the ferry link from Meersburg to Constance. It extends north to Bodman-Ludwigshafen. In contrast to the main south-eastern part of the Upper Lake, which is a condominium, Lake Überlingen is considered German territory. The total area of Lake Obersee is about 473 km2; with its 61 km2, Lake Überlingen is about as large as the Untersee part of the lake. The elevation of the water surface is about 395 m above sea level. The maximum depth of Lake Überlingen of 147 m is significantly low…

Lake Constance Belt Railway (German: Bodenseegürtelbahn) is the name used for several contiguous railway lines, either around the entire Upper Lake of Lake Constance (Bodensee) or only along its northern shore. It was coined around 1900, when the trinational railway ring around the lake (Konstanz–Radolfzell–Friedrichshafen–Lindau–Bregenz–Rorschach–Romanshorn–Konstanz) was completed, but today the term is only used for the line from Radolfzell to Lindau in southern Germany.

The Obersee (German pronunciation: [ˈoːbɐzeː] , lit. 'Upper Lake'), also known as Upper Lake Constance, is the much larger of the two parts of Lake Constance, the other part being the Untersee (English: Lower Lake). The two parts are separated by the Bodanrück peninsula. The narrow, northwestern branch of Obersee is also called Überlinger See (English: Lake Überlingen).

Werd Island is the main island of the small island group Werd Islands in the westernmost part of the Lower Lake of Lake Constance just before the High Rhine leaves the part of the lake known as the Rhine Lake (Rheinsee). It is located on Swiss territory between Stein am Rhein and Eschenz.
