Pełniejszy materiał źródłowy / excerpt
Conversations regarding the ethics of eating meat are focused on whether or not it is moral to eat non-human animals. People who abstain from eating meat are generally known as vegetarians and people who avoid all animal by-products are known as vegans. They avoid meat for a variety of reasons, including taste preference, animal welfare, ethical reasons, religion, the environmental impact of meat production (environmental vegetarianism), health considerations, and antimicrobial resistance. Individuals who promote meat consumption do so for a number of reasons, such as health, cultural traditions, religious beliefs, and scientific arguments that support the practice. The majority of the world’s health and dietetics associations state that a well-planned vegetarian or vegan diet can be nutritionally adequate for all stages of life . A common argument used in the animal rights movement is the argument from marginal cases, asserting that non-human animals should have the moral status similar to that of marginal case human beings such as human infants, the senile, the comatose, and the cognitively disabled. Proponents argue that there are no morally relevant traits that these marginal humans possess that animals lack. In addition to flesh, vegans also abstain from other animal products, such as dairy products, honey and eggs, for similar reasons. "Ethical omnivores" are individuals…

Vegetarianism is the practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat (red meat, poultry, seafood, freshwater fish, insects, and the flesh of any other animal). It may also include abstaining from eating all by-products of animal slaughter. A person who practices vegetarianism is known as a vegetarian. Vegetarianism may be adopted for various reasons. Many people object to eating meat out of respect for sentient animal life. Such ethical motivations have been codified under various religious beliefs as well as animal rights advocacy. Other motivations for vegetarianism are health-related, political, environmental, cultural, aesthetic, economic, taste-related, or relate to other personal…

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products and the consumption of animal source foods, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A person who practices veganism is known as a vegan; the word is also used to describe foods and materials that are compatible with veganism. Ethical veganism excludes all forms of animal use, whether in agriculture for labour or food (e.g., meat, fish and other animal seafood, eggs, honey, and dairy products such as milk or cheese), in clothing and fashion (e.g., leather, wool, fur, and some cosmetics), in entertainment (e.g., rodeos, bullfighting, zoos, pet ownership, circuses, dolphinariums and horse…

A plant-based diet is a type of diet that consists entirely or mostly of plant-based foods. A wide range of dietary patterns fall in this category, all unified by a focus on high amounts of fiber-rich plants (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices). They are thus defined in terms of high frequency of plants and low frequency or absence of animal food consumption. Examples include vegetarian diets, vegan diets, whole-food, plant-based diets, or "plant-forward" diets akin to the Mediterranean diet.

Choline adequacy and health outcomes in vegetarian and vegan diets. Choline is an essential nutrient with roles in neurotransmitter synthesis, one-carbon metabolism, and lipid transport. Animal-derived foods such as eggs and red meat are the richest dietary sources, but increased consumption of these foods is associated with elevated risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic conditions, which raises concerns about their promotion for choline adequacy. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on choline intake, adequacy, and health outcomes across omnivorous, vegetarian, and vegan diets. The scientific literature published between 2000 and 2025 was reviewed to investigate…

Do Vegetarian Marketing Campaigns Promote Adoption of a Vegan Diet?. Globally, there are hundreds of millions of people following a vegetarian diet (which excludes meat) or a vegan diet (which excludes all animal-derived products). The authors examine an active debate on whether adoption of a vegan diet is promoted by marketing campaigns for a vegetarian diet. Proposing a new category-level model of adoption and disadoption, and flexible MLE estimation of diffusion models, the authors find for U.K data that most temporary vegetarian campaigns leave vegan adoption unchanged in the long run, but cause a transient rise in adoption when starting near equilibrium rates. For sustained campaigns t…
