Linear and Nonlinear Rogue Waves in Optical Systems.

Some novel optical pulses in hydrodynamical nonlinear complex equation using M-truncated fractional derivative.. This study investigates soliton solutions and dynamic wave structures in the complex Ginzburg-Landau (CGL) equation, which is crucial for understanding wave propagation in various physical systems. We employ three analytical methods: the Kumar-Malik method, the generalized Arnous method, and the energy balance method to derive novel closed-form solutions. These solutions exhibit diverse solitonic phenomena, including multi-wave solitons, complex solitons, singular solitons, periodic oscillating waves, dark-wave, and bright-wave profiles. Our results reveal new families of exact s…

In theoretical physics, the (one-dimensional) nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is a nonlinear variation of the Schrödinger equation. It is a classical field equation whose principal applications are to the propagation of light in nonlinear optical fibers, planar waveguides and hot rubidium vapors and to Bose–Einstein condensates confined to highly anisotropic, cigar-shaped traps, in the mean-field regime. Additionally, the equation appears in the studies of small-amplitude gravity waves on the surface of deep inviscid (zero-viscosity) water; the Langmuir waves in hot plasmas; the propagation of plane-diffracted wave beams in the focusing regions of the ionosphere; the propagation of Da…

Ocean rogue waves and their phase space dynamics in the limit of a linear interference model.. We reanalyse the probability for formation of extreme waves using the simple model of linear interference of a finite number of elementary waves with fixed amplitude and random phase fluctuations. Under these model assumptions no rogue waves appear when less than 10 elementary waves interfere with each other. Above this threshold rogue wave formation becomes increasingly likely, with appearance frequencies that may even exceed long-term observations by an order of magnitude. For estimation of the effective number of interfering waves, we suggest the Grassberger-Procaccia dimensional analysis of in…

Nonlinear Fourier classification of 663 rogue waves measured in the Philippine Sea.. Rogue waves are sudden and extreme occurrences, with heights that exceed twice the significant wave height of their neighboring waves. The formation of rogue waves has been attributed to several possible mechanisms such as linear superposition of random waves, dispersive focusing, and modulational instability. Recently, nonlinear Fourier transforms (NFTs), which generalize the usual Fourier transform, have been leveraged to analyze oceanic rogue waves. Next to the usual linear Fourier modes, NFTs can additionally uncover nonlinear Fourier modes in time series that are usually hidden. However, so far only in…

Comparative analysis of lump, breather, and interaction solutions using a bidirectional data mapping approach.. This study analyzes the [Formula: see text]-dimensional Boussinesq equation, a fundamental model in coastal and ocean engineering for describing the propagation of long waves in shallow water. Understanding the nonlinear wave structures of this equation is essential for predicting energy localization, wave stability, and extreme events such as rogue waves. To this end, the Hirota bilinear method is employed to derive explicit [Formula: see text]-soliton solutions, explicitly classifying them into bright and dark types according to parameter criteria. Breather solutions in differen…

Rare events or extreme events occur with very low frequency, often without a regular periodicity, while having a widespread impact which might destabilize systems (for example, stock markets, ocean wave intensity or optical fibers or society). Rare events encompass natural phenomena (major earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, asteroid impacts, solar flares, etc.), anthropogenic hazards (warfare and related forms of violent conflict, acts of terrorism, industrial accidents, financial and commodity market crashes, etc.), as well as phenomena for which natural and anthropogenic factors interact in complex ways (epidemic disease spread, global warming-related changes in climate and weathe…
