The company was founded on July 23, 1953, as Insta-Burger King, a Jacksonville, Florida–based restaurant chain. Fast-food restaurants are typically part of a restaurant chain or franchise operation that provides standardized ingredients and/or partially prepared foods and supplies to each restaurant through controlled supply channels. Since it was founded in 1954, international fast food chain Burger King has employed many advertising programs. During the 1970s, its advertisements included a memorable jingle, the inspiration for its current mascot the Burger King and several well-known and parodied slogans, such as Have it your way and It takes two hands to handle a Whopper. From the early 1980s until approximately 2002, Burger King engaged a series of advertising agencies that produced many unsuccessful slogans and programs, including its least successful campaign, Where's Herb?. In 2003, Burger King hired the Miami-based advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B), which revived the Burger King character used du…

A hamburger, often known as a burger, consists of fillings—usually a patty of panfried or grilled ground meat, typically beef—placed inside a sliced bun, sesame seed bun, or bread roll. These patties are often served with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, bacon, or chilis, together in the bun or roll. The filling of the burger can be topped with condiments such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, or a "special sauce", often a variation of Thousand Island dressing. A burger with the patty topped with cheese is called a cheeseburger. Under some definitions, a hamburger is considered a sandwich. Hamburgers are commonly prepared at home and typically associated with fast-food restaurants bu…

The Economic Effects of Nutritional Labeling on Restaurant Choices of Menu Items. In his November 2004 article in the Wisconsin Law Review, Michael McCann studies the issue of obesity in the United States and suggests extending the food nutritional labeling requirements to certain fast-food items to inform unaware fast food consumers. In this short comment, we complement the consumer choice analysis of McCann (the demand side) with a view of the predicted behavior of restaurant chains (the supply side). We argue that the introduction of mandatory labeling of nutritional information on kids' meals, as suggested by McCann, will probably change the way consumer choose to purchase fast food ite…
