Although they were first developed for accounting or bookkeeping tasks, they now are used extensively in any context where tabular lists are built, sorted, and shared.
Pełniejszy materiał źródłowy / excerpt
A spreadsheet is a computer application for computation, organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form. Spreadsheets were developed as computerized analogs of paper accounting worksheets. The program operates on data entered in cells of a table. Each cell may contain either numeric or text data, or the results of formulas that automatically calculate and display a value based on the contents of other cells. The term spreadsheet may also refer to one such electronic document. In modern spreadsheet applications, several spreadsheets, often known as "worksheets" or simply "sheets", are gathered together to form a "workbook". A workbook is physically represented by a file containing all the data for the book, the sheets, and the cells with the sheets. Worksheets are normally represented by tabs that flip between pages, each one containing one of the sheets, although Numbers changes this model significantly. Cells in a multi-sheet book add the sheet name to their reference, for instance, "Sheet 1!C10". Some systems extend this syntax to allow cell references to different workbooks. Spreadsheet users can adjust any stored value and observe the effects on calculated values. This makes the spreadsheet useful for "what-if" analysis since many cases can be rapidly investigated without manual recalculation. Modern spreadsheet software can have multiple interacting sheets and…

A Spreadsheet Model to Determine the Historical Value Drivers of a Company. Identifying the historical value drivers of a company proves extremely useful while valuing a company. Knowing why a company has done well (or poorly) in the past is very important to understand how the company is going to perform in the future. In this paper we suggest a spreadsheet model that can help one in identifying the relative importance of the different value drives for any company. Apart from helping one in determining the value drivers of a company, this model can also prove to be extremely useful while doing financial statements analysis. In this paper we develop a simple spreadsheet model and apply it t…

The functional database model is used to support analytics applications such as financial planning and performance management. The functional database model, or the functional model for short, is different from but complementary to the relational model. The functional model is also distinct from other similarly named concepts, including the DAPLEX functional database model and functional language databases. The functional model is part of the online analytical processing (OLAP) category since it comprises multidimensional hierarchical consolidation. But it goes beyond OLAP by requiring a spreadsheet-like cell orientation, where cells can be input or calculated as functions of other cells. A…

Converting exposure proportions calculated from surveys based on one reference period length to another.. Commonly used components of health risk assessments and outbreak investigations are the proportion of the general population exposed to potential sources, often coming from national surveys collected with one reference period, such as 7 days. However, risk assessors may need this value for a different period of time (e.g. 1 day, a full year, etc.) and outbreak investigators may need a reference period that matches their case questionnaire. Use of these proportions is biased if the reference period does not match what is needed. Three surveys that collected exposure information with more…
