Electric field work is the work performed by an electric field on a charged particle in its vicinity. The work per unit of charge is defined as the movement of negligible test charge between two points, and is expressed as the difference in electric potential at those points. The work can be done, for example, by generators, (electrochemical cells) or thermocouples generating an electromotive force. Electric field work is formally equivalent to work by other force fields in physics, and the formalism for electrical work is identical to that of mechanical work.

Electric potential, also known as the electrostatic potential or electric field potential, is a field of scalar quantities through space, often denoted with the letter φ {\displaystyle \varphi } or V {\displaystyle V} , that gives, for each point in space, the electric potential energy per unit of electric charge that a point charge would have if it was located at that point: at every point, a particle of charge q particle {\displaystyle q_{\text{particle}}} would have the electric potential energy U particle when at the point = q particle V point {\displaystyle U_{\text{particle when at the point}}=q_{\text{particle}}\,V_{\text{point}}} . The difference in electric potential energy U, U =…

Electric potential energy is a potential energy (measured in joules) that results from conservative Coulomb forces and is associated with the configuration of a particular set of point charges within a defined system. An object may be said to have electric potential energy by virtue of either its own electric charge or its relative position to other electrically charged objects. The term "electric potential energy" is used to describe the potential energy in systems with time-variant electric fields, while the term "electrostatic potential energy" is used to describe the potential energy in systems with time-invariant electric fields.

Simulation of emulsion evolution in shear flow field under the control of bidirectional pulsed electric field.. Electrostatic demulsification is a widely used technique for treating high-water-cut emulsions (O/W type). However, in high-water-cut emulsions, continuous electric fields often lead to short-circuiting and chain formation. Meanwhile, pure shear fields rely on random collisions, which is inefficient for fine droplets. To address these limitations, this article established a lattice Boltzmann model coupled with electric and shear field. It explored the impact of the combined action of bidirectional pulsed electric field (BPEF) and shear field on the demulsification process. Simulat…

Rydberg positronium injection of electrons and positrons into a levitated dipole trap.. Abstract A neutral-beam injection scheme for magnetically trapping electrons and positrons is proposed. Pulsed lasers excite positronium (Ps) to long-lived Rydberg states that drift at speeds of |v→|∼105 ms-1 into the magnetic field of a levitated superconducting coil. The electric field experienced in the reference frame of the rapidly moving atoms is sufficient to ionize a significant portion of the loosely bound Ps. The released electrons and positrons are confined to the poloidal magnetic field lines that wrap around the coil. Rydberg positronium injection (RPI) does not perturb the confinement volum…

An electric current is a flow of charged particles, such as electrons or ions, through an electrical conductor or space. It is defined as the net rate at which electric charge flows through a surface. The moving particles are called charge carriers, which may be of several types, depending on the conductor. In electric circuits, the charge carriers are often electrons moving through a wire. In semiconductors, the charge carriers can be electrons or holes. In an electrolyte, the charge carriers are ions, while in plasma- an ionized gas- they are also ions and electrons. In the International System of Units (SI), electric current is expressed in units of ampere (sometimes called an "amp", sym…

In most applications, Coulomb's law determines the force acting on an electrically charged particle. Electric potential is the work done to move an electric charge from one position to another within an electric field, typically measured in volts. Electricity plays a central role in many modern technologies, serving in electric power where electric current is used to energise equipment, and in electronics dealing with electrical circuits involving active components such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, and associated passive interconnection technologies.
