A Few Good Words for Generic Places: Especially Those Here Today, Gone Tomorrow. Korean names are names that place their origin in, or are used in, Korea. A Korean name in the modern era typically consists of a surname followed by a given name, with no middle names. A number of Korean terms for names exist. For full names, sŏngmyŏng (Korean: 성명; Hanja: 姓名), sŏngham (성함; 姓銜), or irŭm (이름) are commonly used. When a Korean name is written in Hangul, there is usually no space between the surname and the given name. Most Korean surnames are monosyllabic, although multisyllabic surnames exist (e.g. Namgung, Hwangbo). In South Korea, upon marriage, both partners keep their full names, but children inherit the father's surname unless otherwise specified during the marriage regi…

A gag name is a pseudonym intended to be humorous through its similarity to both a real name and a term or phrase that is funny, strange, or vulgar. The source of humor stems from the double meaning behind the phrase, although use of the name without prior knowledge of the joke could also be funny. Examples of the use of gag names occur in works of fiction in which there is a roll call, a listing of names, or a prank call. Some names that would be considered gag names have been adopted as stage names by performers, often in the adult entertainment industry.

The most frequently cited legend claims that the local German-speaking inn-keeper was given the name Punkey Doodle after he mispronounced the words of the song Yankee Doodle, which sounded more like "Punkey Doodle" to the tavern guests. Other stories link the name to an old…
