"Blade Runner 2049" Denisa Villeneuve'a, mimo wizualnej maestrii i rozbudowanego świata przedstawionego, zmaga się z problemem powolnego tempa i potencjalnie pustej egzystencji, co rodzi pytanie o jego wartość jako dzieła filmowego.

Mere Data Makes a Man: Artificial Intelligences in Blade Runner 2049. This chapter explores how the representation of artificial intelligences in Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 (2017) proposes a wider discourse around notions of identity, memory, and the reformulation of the human self and subjectivity. The author traces the links between Villeneuve’s deployment of AI as a biocapitalist venture and our own consumerist, technocratic world. The film’s representation of the Replicant protagonist’s subjectivity and consciousness encourages the spectator to question the roles of technology, capitalism and neoliberalism in contemporary society.

A Holographic Manifesto. Unlike critics’ understanding of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 as a misogynistic movie, this paper argues that the film tries to destroy male-centered gender stereotypes through Joi’s subversive performance acts. Instead, she turns this male-female relationship upside down by making K the sexual object for her own pleasure. Joi even does not hesitate to risk her own death to go beyond her pre-designed program. In this respect, the movie should be understood as an attempt to p…

Subjectivity and Cinematic Space in Blade Runner 2049. This chapter analyses the relationship between posthuman subjectivity and cinematic space – and therefore, between ethics and aesthetics – in Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 (2017). The authors examine the film’s use of both diegetic and audiovisual space, linking the deconstruction of the binary division between interior and exterior to the film’s discourse on posthuman subjectivity. They focus specifically on representations of virtual reality, cinematic space and the relationship between Replicant and AI positing that BR 2049 poses fundamental questions about the condition of inhabiting physical or virtual spaces and, ultimately…
