A character arc is the transformation or inner journey of a character over the course of a story. If a story has a character arc, the character begins as one sort of person and gradually transforms into a different sort of person in response to changing developments in the story. Since the change is often substantive and leading from one personality trait to a diametrically opposite trait (for example, from greed to benevolence), the geometric term arc is often used to describe the sweeping change. In most stories, lead characters and protagonists are the characters most likely to experience character arcs, although lesser characters often change as well. A driving element of the plots of m…

Undertale and Deltarune are fantasy role-playing video games developed by Toby Fox. They take place in different fictional universes, but feature many of the same characters. Undertale is set in a world where monsters once coexisted with humans on the planet's surface, but, after an ancient war, were trapped in the Underground and forgotten. The game follows Frisk, a human child who falls into the Underground via an opening adjacent to Mount Ebott, and seeks to escape. In Deltarune, considered a spiritual successor to Undertale, humans and monsters still coexist. Set in Hometown, the game follows Kris, who discovers a Dark World, an alternate view of reality inhabited by Darkners, living re…

Harold "Hal" Jordan, one of the characters known as Green Lantern, is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created in 1959 by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane, and first appeared in Showcase #22 (October 1959). Hal Jordan is a reinvention of the previous Green Lantern, who appeared in 1940s comic books as the character Alan Scott. While Alan Scott had been designed after characters from folklore and mythology, Kane instead drew visual inspiration for Hal from Hollywood actor Paul Newman. Hal Jordan is a former fighter pilot who works for Ferris Aircraft as a test pilot, a member and occasionally leader of an intergalactic police force…

Child development involves the biological, psychological and emotional changes that occur in human beings between birth and the conclusion of adolescence. It is—particularly from birth to five years— a foundation for a prosperous and sustainable society. Childhood is divided into three stages of life which include early childhood, middle childhood, and late childhood (preadolescence). Early childhood typically ranges from infancy to the age of 6 years old. During this period, development is significant, as many of life's milestones happen during this time period such as first words, learning to crawl, and learning to walk. Middle childhood/preadolescence or ages 6–10 universally mark a dist…

Processing is a graphics library and integrated development environment (IDE) built for the electronic arts, new media art, and visual design communities with the purpose of teaching non-programmers the fundamentals of computer programming in a visual context. It is free and open-source software released under a GNU General Public License (GPL) and a GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). Processing uses the Java programming language, with added simplifications such as added classes and aliased mathematical functions and operations. It also provides a graphical user interface to simplify the compiling and executing stage. The Processing language and IDE are the precursor to other project…

Human–computer interaction (HCI) is the process through which people operate and engage with computer systems. Research in HCI covers the design and the use of computer technology, which focuses on the interfaces between people (users) and computers. HCI researchers observe how people interact with computers and design technologies that allow humans to interact with computers in new ways. These include visual, auditory, and tactile (haptic) feedback systems, which serve as channels for interaction in both traditional interfaces and mobile computing contexts. A device that allows interaction between human and a computer is known as a "human–computer interface". For example: the design of a s…

Symbolic interactionism is a sociological theory that develops from practical considerations and alludes to humans' particular use of shared language to create common symbols and meanings, for use in both intra- and interpersonal communication. It is particularly important in microsociology and social psychology. It is derived from the American philosophy of pragmatism and particularly from the work of George Herbert Mead, as a pragmatic method to interpret social interactions. According to Mead, symbolic interactionism is "The ongoing use of language and gestures in anticipation of how the other will react; a conversation". Symbolic interactionism is "a framework for building theory that s…

Parasocial interaction (PSI) refers to a kind of psychological relationship experienced by an audience in their mediated encounters with performers in mass media. PSI is described as an illusory experience, such that media audiences interact with personas (e.g., talk show hosts, celebrities, fictional characters, social media influencers) as if they are engaged in a reciprocal relationship with them. The term was coined by Donald Horton and Richard Wohl in 1956. Parasocial interaction can happen through many kinds of media, including TV shows, podcasts, livestreams and social platforms where creators speak directly to viewers. The term first became widely used when researchers tried to expl…

Two worlds, one goal: a qualitative study of academics' perceptions of student-athletes.. Introduction This study investigates the challenges faced by university academics (lecturing staff) in supporting student-athletes, with particular attention to the context of small island nations where sporting pathways are still evolving. It also explores their views and awareness of existing support structures, as well as their recommendations for improving institutional support. Method Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 university academics across 11 faculties in Malta. Participants were selected using purposive, convenience, and snowball sampling. Data were analysed using reflexive…
