Phodopus, a genus of rodents in the hamster subfamily Cricetinae—a division of the larger family Cricetidae—is a lineage of small hamsters native to central Asia that display unusual adaptations to extreme temperatures. They are the only known hamsters that live in groups and, as shown in Phodopus campbelli, rely on significant contributions by males to the raising of offspring. They are nocturnal and active throughout the year; they do not hibernate. Species of Phodopus, together with members of the genera Cricetulus, Allocricetulus and Tscherskia are called dwarf hamsters because of their small size (roughly 7 to 10 centimetres or 2.8 to 3.9 inches) relative to other hamsters. Like other…

Commodity risk assessment of Prunus avium plants from United Kingdom.. The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as 'High risk plants, plant products and other objects'. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by plants of Prunus avium possibly grafted on rootstocks of either P. avium, P. canescens, P. cerasus, P. pseudocerasus or their hybrids imported from the UK, taking into account the available scientific information, including the technical information provided by the UK. All pests associated with the commodities…

Commodity risk assessment of Prunus spp. plants from United Kingdom.. The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as 'High risk plants, plant products and other objects'. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by: grafted potted plants up to 15 years old or bundles of grafted bare root plants up to 3 years old or graftwood up to 2 years old of Prunus armeniaca , P. cerasifera , P. domestica , P. incisa or P. persica imported from the United Kingdom (UK), taking into account the available scientific information, including…

Development of Entrepreneurship Education in Kazakhstan: The Need for Government Regulation. This paper analyses the current situation in entrepreneurship education in Kazakhstan and reveals the existence of significant gaps. The authors used research findings as well as previous studies to highlight the need to reconsider the public policy in entrepreneurship and government regulation in this relatively new field. The study recommends an approach based on “Network Governance” to ensure favourable conditions for building an effective entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country. Implementation of principles of Network Governance is intended to bring together all stakeholders, including state an…

Phodopus campbelli detect reduced photoperiod during development but, unlike Phodopus sungorus , retain functional reproductive physiology. Abstract Golden (Mesocricetus auratus) and Siberian (Phodopus sungorus) hamsters are widely used as animal models for seasonal reproduction; but M. auratus shows no developmental delay in short days until after sexual maturity, whereas P. sungorus juveniles delay development in short days. As the photoperiodic response of Phodopus campbelli is not well established, litters of the two Phodopus species were gestated and reared under long days (14 h light:10 h darkness) or short days (10 h light:14 h darkness) until 70 days of age. As expecte…
