Human cannibalism is the act or practice of humans eating the flesh or internal organs of other human beings. A person who practices cannibalism is called a cannibal. The meaning of "cannibalism" has been extended into zoology to describe animals consuming parts of individuals of the same species as food. Anatomically modern humans, Neanderthals, and Homo antecessor are known to have practised cannibalism to some extent in the Pleistocene. Cannibalism was occasionally practised in Egypt during ancient and Roman times, as well as later during severe famines. The Island Caribs of the Lesser Antilles, whose name is the origin of the word cannibal, acquired a long-standing reputation as eaters…

The history and scope of cannibalism in the Americas is complex, involving ritual or cultural practices connected with human sacrifice and warfare as well as instances motivated by famine and criminal cases. The modern term "cannibal" is derived from the name of the Island Caribs (Kalinago), who were encountered by Christopher Columbus in The Bahamas. At the time o…

Lesser Antilles Lines: The Island of San Huberto (a). In this case, the situation is a classic duopoly. Two shipping firms are in a price war over the market for containerized shipping to and from a small Caribbean island. The case presents a table of contributions to both firms as a function of their prices. This table serves as a basis by which the class can explore the concepts of Nash equilibrium, price leadership, and prisoner's dilemma. It is also available with the case as a student spreadsheet (QA-0355X). See also ''Lesser Antilles Lines (B)'' (UVA-QA-0641) and ''Lesser Antilles Lines (C)'' (UVA-QA-0670). Excerpt UVA-QA-0355 Rev.
