Berkhamsted railway station is in the historic market town of Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England. It is located just beside Berkhamsted Castle, overlooking the Grand Junction Canal. The station is 28 miles (45 km) north west of London Euston on the West Coast Main Line. London Northwestern Railway operates services to London, Northampton and many other destinations. There are four platforms of 12-car length on both the fast and slow lines. Analysis of Space Usage on Train Station Platforms Based on Trajectory Data. The functionality of railway platforms could be assessed by level of service concepts. They describe interactions between humans and the built environment and allow one to rate risks due to overcrowding. To improve existing concepts, a detailed analysis of how pedestrians use the space was performed, and new measurement and evaluation methods are introduced. Trajectories of passengers at platforms in Bern and Zurich Hardbrücke (Switzerland) were analysed. Boarding and alighting passengers show different behaviour, considering the travel paths, waiting times and mean speed. Density, speed and flow profiles were expl…

Substantiation of rational design factors of a metropolitan railway station without side railway platforms. This article presents the results of a study on the stress-strain state of a metropolitan railway station structure without side railway platforms during the construction of the upper arch of the middle station tunnel using in-situ reinforced concrete. The study was conducted using a systematic approach methodology based on a full factorial experiment plan, with subsequent processing of the calculation results using mathematical statistical methods and regression analysis to create a probabilistic-statistical model. The initial data for the analysis were obtained through numerical ana…

A railway platform is an area in a train station alongside a railway track providing convenient access to trains. Almost all stations have some form of platform, with larger stations having multiple platforms. Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan hosts 44 platforms, more than any other rail station in the world. The world's longest station platform is at Hubballi Junction in India at 1,507 metres (4,944 ft). The Appalachian Trail station or Benson station in the United States, at the other extreme, has a platform which is only long enough for a single bench. Among some American train conductors, the word "platform" has entered usage as a verb meaning "to berth at a station", as in th…

Welwyn Garden City railway station serves the town of Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, England. It is situated 20 miles 25 chains (20.31 miles, 32.69 km) down the line from London King's Cross on the East Coast Main Line. Train services are currently provided by Thameslink and Great Northern, which are sub-brands of Greater Thameslink Railway. The first station in what is now Welwyn Garden City was Welwyn Junction, which was open between 1858 and 1860 to provide interchange with the Hertford, Luton and Dunstable Railway, but it was closed when Hatfield was chosen as a preferential terminus. In 1917, during the construction of the town, a temporary station opened for employees to the nor…

Stevenage railway station serves the town of Stevenage in Hertfordshire, England. The station is around 27.6 miles (44.4 km) north of London King's Cross on the East Coast Main Line. The station lies just to the north of Langley junction, a grade separated junction where the Hertford Loop Line diverges from the East Coast Main Line; the two lines re-converge at Alexandra Palace in London's northern suburbs. Stevenage is served and managed by Govia Thameslink Railway, which operates stopping services southbound to King’s Cross, Brighton, Gatwick Airport and Moorgate; northbound services connect to Cambridge and Peterborough. It is also served frequently by London North Eastern Railway, which…
