Pełniejszy materiał źródłowy / excerpt
Various non-human animal species exhibit behavior that can be interpreted as homosexual or bisexual, often referred to as same-sex sexual behavior (SSSB) by scientists. This may include same-sex sexual activity, courtship, affection, pair bonding, and parenting among same-sex animal pairs. Various forms of this are found among a variety of vertebrate and arthropod taxonomic classes. The sexual behavior of non-human animals takes many different forms, even within the same species, though homosexual behavior is best known from social species. Scientists observe same-sex sexual behavior in animals in different degrees and forms among different species and clades. A 2019 paper states that it has been observed in over 1,500 species. Although same-sex interactions involving genital contact have been reported in many animal species, they are routinely manifested in only a few, including humans. Other than humans, the only known species to exhibit exclusive homosexual orientation is the domesticated sheep (Ovis aries), involving about 10% of males. The motivations for and implications of these behaviors are often lensed through anthropocentric thinking; Bruce Bagemihl states that any hypothesis is "necessarily an account of human interpretations of these phenomena". Proposed causes for same-sex sexual behavior vary across species. Theories include mistaken identity (especially for art…

Same-Sex Sexual Behavior in Male Toque Macaques (Macaca sinica aurifrons) of Lower Hanthana, Sri Lanka.. To date, 51 nonhuman primates have been reported to exhibit same-sex sexual behaviors. This study adds to that growing list with the first description and preliminary analysis of SSB in Macaca sinica of Sri Lanka. Using the scan sampling method, two free-ranging troops of M. s. aurifrons, in lower Hanthana, were observed from August 2020 to August 2021. We defined sexual encounters as including courtship display, mounting, and genital contact or stimulation. In total, 443 sexual encounters were recorded; 51.2% (N = 227) were different-sex sexual behaviors and 47.1% (N = 209) were same-se…

Animal sexual behaviour takes many different forms, including within the same species. Common mating or reproductively motivated systems include monogamy, polygyny, polyandry, polygamy and promiscuity. Other sexual behaviour may be reproductively motivated (e.g. sex apparently due to duress or coercion and situational sexual behaviour) or non-reproductively motivated (e.g. homosexual sexual behaviour, bisexual sexual behaviour, cross-species sex, sexual arousal from objects or places, sex with dead animals, etc.). When animal sexual behaviour is reproductively motivated, it is often termed mating or copulation; for most non-human mammals, mating and copulation occur at oestrus (the most fer…

Animal non-reproductive sexual behavior encompasses sexual activities that non-human animals participate in which do not lead to the reproduction of the species. Although procreation continues to be the primary explanation for sexual behavior in animals, recent observations on animal behaviors have given alternative reasons for the engagement in sexual activities by animals. Animals have been observed to engage in sex for social interaction, bonding, exchange for significant materials, affection, mentorship pairings, sexual enjoyment, or as demonstration of social rank. Observed non-procreative sexual activities include non-copulatory mounting (without insertion, or by a female, or by a you…

Epidemiological profile and transmission of mpox in the Kamituga health zone of South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo: a cross-sectional prospective study.. BACKGROUND: Monkeypox (mpox) remains a major global public health problem due to its rapid transmission, clinical severity and high case-fatality rate, especially for the clade I virus. Since August 2024, the disease was declared an public health emergency of international concern, with the resurgence of the disease cases and morbidity and mortality. Few studies exist in low-income countries. The Kamituga health zone (HZ) in South Kivu is the epicenter of the epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The aim of this study i…

Sex and the law deals with the regulation by law of human sexual activity. Sex laws vary from one place or jurisdiction to another, and have varied over time. Unlawful sexual acts are called sex crimes. Some laws regarding sexual activity are intended to protect one or all participants, while others are intended to proscribe behavior that has been defined as a crime. For example, a law may proscribe unprotected sex if one person knows that they have a sexually transmitted infection or to protect a minor; or it may proscribe non-consensual sex. In general, laws may proscribe acts which are considered either sexual abuse or behavior that societies consider to be inappropriate and against the…

Non-penetrative sex or outercourse is sexual activity that usually does not include sexual penetration, but some forms, particularly when termed outercourse, include penetrative aspects, that may result from forms of fingering or oral sex. It generally excludes the penetrative aspects of vaginal, anal, or oral sex, but includes various forms of sexual and non-sexual activity, such as frottage, manual sex, mutual masturbation, kissing, or hugging. People engage in non-penetrative sex for a variety of reasons, including as a form of foreplay or as a primary or preferred sexual act. Heterosexual couples may engage in non-penetrative sex as an alternative to penile-vaginal penetration, to prese…

Divergent ecological adaptation in allopatry leads to behavioral isolation through female resistance.. BACKGROUND: Natural selection can be a potent contributor to speciation, but how exactly this occurs remains unclear. Studying behavioral isolation and the divergence of mating behaviors among multiple isolated populations can help uncover the importance of divergent adaptation in the evolution of reproductive isolation. Here, we utilize common-garden reared virgin Bahamas mosquitofish (Gambusia hubbsi) derived from wild populations adapted to either high- or low-predation risk environments. RESULTS: While we know that parallel evolution of female mate choice has contributed to behavioral…
