Cinnamic Acid Attenuates Ciprofloxacin-Induced Depression-like Behavior via Modulation of Neuroinflammation, Oxidative Stress, and Neurotransmitter Homeostasis in the Hippocampus-Prefrontal Cortex Axis.. Ciprofloxacin (CPX) has been associated with neuropsychiatric adverse effects; however, its contribution to depression-like behaviors and the underlying neurobiological mechanisms remain insufficiently characterized. Previous studies have indicated that cinnamic acid (CA) may exert protective actions in the nervous system by modulating oxidative and inflammatory pathways. Nevertheless, its effectiveness in preventing CPX-induced neurobehavioral impairments remains largely unknown. The prese…

Vicarious defeat stress (VDS) is not a simple substitute for chronic social defeat stress (CSDS): a comparative study on behavioral and molecular mechanisms in both stress-induced anxiety- and depression-like behaviors.. Social stress is a fundamental environmental factor driving the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders. Chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) and vicarious defeat stress (VDS) are two widely used social stress paradigms, with VDS initially proposed as an alternative to CSDS. The present study integrated behavioral phenotypes, hippocampal proteomics, synaptic morphology, energy metabolism, neurotransmitter and tryptophan-kynurenine (TRP-KYN) metabolism, and inflammatory…

Cats, like all living organisms, occasionally have mutations that affect their body type. Sometimes, these mutations are striking enough that humans select for and perpetuate them. However, in relatively small or isolated feral cat populations the mutations can also spread naturally without human intervention, for example on islands. Cat breeders exploit the naturally occurring mutations by selectively breeding them in a small gene pool, resulting in the creation of new cat breeds with unusual physical characteristics. The term designer cat is often used to refer to these cat breeds. This is not always in the best interests of the cat, as many of these mutations are harmful; some are even l…
